Please note what system you are on when you make a bug report or comment about some program. Recently, I saw a message about find(1) referring to the -depth switch. I had never heard of that one and came to the conclusion that it was sysIII or sysV. In this case the deduction was relatively painless, but on other occasions I have seen a bug fix and gone into my 4.1bsd code to install it only to find that the code bears no relation to the code in the bug fix. Please note at least the system and hopefully some indication of the version of the software if possible. * Eric Holstege Caltech, Pasadena, CA. * eric@cit-vax {ucbvax!cithep, research}!citcsv!eric

Why are so many 4.2BSD bug reports showing up in net.unix-wizards? They belong in net.bugs.4bsd. As system adminstrator at a 4.2bsd site, I'm as interested in them as anyone but I would prefer them to be collected together in the appropriate place. -- From the Tardis of Mark Callow msc@qubix.UUCP, decwrl!qubix!msc@Berkeley.ARPA ...{decvax,ucbvax,ihnp4}!decwrl!qubix!msc, ...{ittvax,amd70}!qubix!msc

There are those on the Arpanet who are not on Usenet...they get "unix-wizards" but not "net.bugs.4bsd". Also, the Arpanet is far more reliable than Usenet and some of these reports are very important. I would come down in favor of double posting (at least).

From: Doug Gwyn (VLD/VMB) <gwyn@brl-vld> net.bugs.4bsd may NOT be the "appropriate place", especially for some of us not on USENET.
