I'm the list maintainer for the ARPANet info-68k list. When the fa groups moved to mod groups, an offer was made to gateway info-68k, even though it wasn't gatewayed to the fa groups. I decided not to do so at that time, as I didn't think there were enough uucp people on the list to justify it. I've since changed my mind, and would like that gateway turned on. The reasons, in chronological order, are: 1) Some potential readers asked for it. 2) The number of uucp readers subscribing to the list has grown, to the point of being a nuisance to track the uucp paths to them. 3) I've seen an estimate of the number of people required to make news cheaper (for the net) than mail that was much lower than I had expected. While there aren't enough people in uucp-land reading the list to match that estimate, it's easy to imagine it finding enough more readers to make it cheaper. Given the new structure, the obvious name for the group is mod.computers.68k. * This should be a nice, quiet creation: it's moderated, there's a moderator, and the mechanism for it is all set up. All that has to happen is turning on the gateway. Anyone have any major complaints, other than the name? Thanx, <mike * about the name: I like the new structure on the ARPANet newsgroups. Erik Fair is to be congratulated for applying some rationality to the netnews structure. On the other hand, I think the name is to long, because I dislike typing it. For that, Erik should be forced to type "computers" 1000 times a day until it gets changed. However, we're stuck with it until that change, so new gateways (such as info-68k) ought to conform.
