And you thought your local COCOT was a sleazy operator. I suppose this
is marginally legal in at least some of the proposed applications
(employees!?!) but, criminy, this is amazing. Anyone wanna place a bet
on how many pages in the "manual"? I'm guessing this is an
unsuccessful private investigator trying to branch out.

A woman and her three kids were wandering around looking at various things, not seeming to shop for anything in particular. Her son was looking at cordless phones and she told him he didn't want one of those "because the police could listen to your conversation." This is either an indication of the kinds of calls she makes or the level of paranoia she has about law enforcement. Either way, it's a sad commentary. Had she said "somebody could listen" then I'd just assume she's a privacy lover. The fact that her first thought was police kind of bothered me. For what that's worth. [ A woman was overheard in a department store telling her son they wouldn't buy a cordless because the police could listen in. The poster (overhearer) expressed disapproval due to the word "police" rather than just "someone" and suggested that paranoia or her "kinds of phone calls" were the problem. ] Well, it's explicitly LEGAL for the police to listen in to your cordless calls. The Supreme Court has ruled on it. It remains to be ruled upon whether a person on a corded phone talking to someone else on a cordless has his conversation protected in any legal way. The IRS even announced that they were going to listen in on cordless calls. When the facts are vicious, I advocate the "spreading of vicious truths". If I were to wager on whether the woman was more "paranoid" (the poster's word) or the poster was more McCarthyistic (my word), I'm afraid I'd tend toward the latter.
