[comp.dcom.telecom] Connecting American RJ11 to British CW1311 - a Simple Query

"Fernando da Silva (PW Ph.D." <fds@cs.man.ac.uk> (05/17/91)

I'm trying to connect an American RJ11 male connector to a British
CW1311 socket, for data communications purposes.

    RJ11 jack CW1311 jack
1- not used 1- not used
    2- black(?) 2- red
    3- red(?) 3- blue
    4- green(?) 4- green
    5- yellow(?) 5- white
6- not used 6- not used

For most British phone connections only 2 and 5 of CW1311 are
sufficient. Wich are the two important lines on the RJ11? Are all
four lines important for data communications?

Many thanks in anticipation.
