Okay, I say UNCLE! I'm trying to figure out how to *properly* configure uucp security files. I know there are many ways to do it, mostly wrong, and they only work by accident. Here is my problem: We've had uucp working just great between local machines and it works okay with remote machines for mail and news. We've always been the master (we've done all the calling) so we have control over which machines are connected - they are all friendly. But now I want to allow numerous machines to poll us - and I want to restrict what they can do but without restricting our local machines. The files LIB/L-cmd and LIB/USERFILE need to be setup but I can't figure out what to do, no mater how many times I reread "Uucp Implementation Description" by D.A. Nowitz. ** Specifically, I want to allow local machines (say "e1" and "e2") to ** be able to send/receive mail and do uucp and uux with as little ** restriction as possible. However, I want remote machines (say "r1" ** and "r2") to only be able to send/receive mail. Is there a uucp wizard out there who can help? Is it possible to set L-cmd and USERFILE for the above case or do I have to restrict the local machines as well? What are the interactions between L-cmd, USERFILE and uucp, uux, uucico and uuxqt? We're running UniPlus+ UniSoft) Unix sys3 and sys5. I do not have uucp source, else I'd dig. Mail replies please. I will forward the responses to other interested parties (or post if there is a great interest).
