[net.unix-wizards] Streaming Tape Drives

Someone mentioned streaming tape drives in a question. Can UNIX handle them?
From reading the volcopy source code and watching 'volcopy -buf ...', I have
the impression than UNIX could not keep up with streamers. Does anyone know?

There are some good streaming tape drives that will revert to start/stop
operation when necessary to avoid lost data.

DEC's tu80 is one of those streaming/start-stop drives. Under some conditions,
Unix can put (and keep) it in streaming mode.
