Would anyone involved with the AT&T/Intel/Microsoft/SCO/ISC effort
to create a standard UNIX platform for the Intel 80386 environment care to
comment upon the ramifications of the recent AT&T/Sun announcements concerning
the merging of SunOS and System V Release 3? I am sure that many in the UNIX
community would like to see the results of AT&T and Sun's work reflected in the
80386 UNIX world.
For that matter, would any other computer vendors in the multi-user
systems arena care to comment as to the future of UNIX standardization in
light of these recent agreements? It seems that the AT&T/Sun effort should
bring together the System V and BSD strains, while the 80386 effort should
merge XENIX and System V. How all of these developments fit into the POSIX
effort scheme is unknown to me, but a defacto standard based upon the a
combination of Berkeley and AT&T seems to make that a mute point.
