[net.unix-wizards] hosts.txt syntax error, line 866

rlb@Purdue.ARPA (01/30/84)

From: Bob Brown <rlb@Purdue.ARPA>

4.2BSD htable expects that the cpu-type field in hosts.txt adhere to the
same rules of formation as host names. In version 327 of the NIC host table,
the line

HOST : 192.5.23.16 : BRL-ZAP : 68000 : IOS : TCP,UDP :

has a cpu-type that does not adhere to the host name rules. It's an easy
fix to htable.

From: Ron Natalie <ron@brl-vgr>

The error is trully in htable. There is no stipulation anywhere
that the CPU-TYPE or OPSYS fields begin with an alphabetic.
