[rec.games.video] Flight Simulation Games

Once upon a long time ago, before I had my own home computer, I had the
opportunity to play a video game at a party called "B-17 Bomber". It
was on a Mattel's Intellevison game system hooked up to a TV. Remember
those days? It was purely an arcade style game, but the game had a voice
synthesiser! Actually, I fell in love with the game, the graphics were
very good and the added sound of your crew actually talking to you, "Bandits
Twelve O'Clock High!", added a special dimension to the game. The graphics
included views out of the cockpit, from the bomb aimers position and also
maps giving you your position in relation to the targets. Textual information
gave you information about your aircraft including speed, direction, etc, and
damage! as well as your score. The scenario was you were stationed in
England and your mission was to bomb any one of a number of targets of your
choice. The difficulty increased the deeper into Europe you flew because
this meant heavier flak and more frequent German fighter interceptions.
Targets at sea were easier missions for example.

Well, that was the one and only time I played the game. It was a long time
ago, but I won't forget how much fun the game was. (I chose an "easy"
target for my first mission. I was successful sinking a ship, but I was
hit very hard by the Me-109 interceptors. I made it back on a prayer, the
aircraft was riddled and I was down to two engines --- it seemed just like
the real stories one hears of B-17's struggling back home).

My question is, is there any similar games out there for Apple II computers?
I see a game on the market called "50 Mission Crush" by Strategic Simulations.
I've seen a box cover and it looks like it could be a "B-17 Bomber" type of
game. I've even read reviews, but they didn't convince me it was just like
"B-17 Bomber". Do you know what I mean? Have you seen or played "50 Mission
Crush"?

I do too many "serious" things on my Apple IIc at home, I just need a fun
program for a change. Thanks in advance for any comments!

Though I've never played 50 mission Crush, but If it's by Strategic Simulations,
chances are, that's its not Arcade Action. I would have to reccomend
"F-15 Strike Eagle". You have a nice blend of Arcade Action, with the
Strategy, of Flying over Enemy Territory, Bombing Primary Targets,
Air-to-Air Combat, and "Flying Home". The graphics are Nice, and the
action is Fast. You even have a choice of where you want to fly over,
places such as Libya, Egypt, Etc... :)
Hope you Enjoy it, I know I did.
