I just finished posting the latest version of PC NetHack (executable and support files) to comp.binaries.ibm.pc. I went back and saved all the parts (seven of them) and followed my own instructions on how to extract everything, and it works. Any problems encountered while extracting it shouldn't be my fault, so blame a noisy line or something. NetHack is a version of Hack, which is itself similar to Rogue. I'm calling the version I posted 2.2-2.3 because it is somewhere between versions 2.2 and 2.3 (which hasn't been released yet). Actually it's a lot closer to 2.3 than 2.2, as I've fixed up the soldier code, and added barracks and a new type of trap, the land mine. Also, several bugs have been fixed, including the inventory (et al) bug. I plan to keep a backup of the posting on my account here only for a few days, due to limited disk space, so I won't be able to mail it to anyone after Christmas. If someone is unable to get all the parts of this I suppose I can let them send me a self-addressed stamped mailer and two floppy disks (one if you can XARC it on your PC). Send me e-mail and I can give you my US Mail address. Also, parts 1-7 of the posting are temporarily available via anonymous ftp from iuvax.cs.indiana.edu, in directory pub/hack. Good luck on getting everything put together, and Merry Christmas! (and any other holidays you may celebrate). - - - - - - - - - Steve Creps on the VAX 8650 running Ultrix 2.0-1 at Indiana University. creps@silver.bacs.indiana.edu "F-14 Tomcat!
