[rec.games.misc] Shadowgate Info wanted

I have finished playing Shadowgate about a year ago and I was
curious about some of the problems. Is it possible to reach
the ledge where the silver arrow is found, or to clear the
rockslide away? (I remember reading about how to clear the rockslide,
but I can't remember how to do it.) Or are these puzzles simply
red herrings with *no* solutions?

I spent a long time playing Shadowgate a couple years ago with some
friends, and basically we never figured out any way around any of
those different extra problems. There are many doors that remain
locked in the game, there doesn't appear to be any way to handle the
rockslide, and the ledge will always crumble.

I did notice that the Sphinx will ask you different questions most
of the time, and that whatever item it asks you to bring it is not
necessary for solving the game (at least I didn't get any). So I
would imagine if you wanted to try and cut down on the number of
potentially useful objects you could try checking that way.

There is a way to get by the rockslide but it is tricky. You have to take one
of the jars that is found in the room with the rope. Then it has to be placed
on the corner of one of the steps. I don't remember off-hand which step but it
has to be lined up pixel for pixel in both directions. You then heat it with a
torch and then hit it with a rock from the sling shot. The jar explodes and
blows the rocks out of the way. After all of that work all that is in the room
is an ad for TMON and the antidote for the wraith's curse but there is more of
that later in the game.

Sorry I have to post this to the net, but several people sent me
e-mail asking for help on various parts of Shadowgate. I had some
problems with my account this past week and some of these letters
have been lost. If you sent me a letter and are still waiting for
a reply, please resend it.

BTW, I wrote a walkthrough for this game a couple years ago. If
there is interest and a site for me to put it somewhere I can easily
arrange to do so.
