[comp.sys.dec] How do I identify memory and floating point hardware?

perl@rdin.UUCP (04/10/87)

Here's my situation: We are buying a used MicroVAX II. The price is
based on the claim that it has 3 megabytes of memory and double
precision floating point. I need to confirm this. How can I tell if
it has double precision floating point? I looked at the CPU board (or
what I guess is the CPU board) and saw two chips in sockets marked
"23110E6" and "23111E6". Does this mean anything to anyone? Under
MicroVMS, "SHOW MEMORY" says: "3.00 Mb". Can I trust this? The board
next to the CPU would appear to be a memory board and it is about half
populated.

I was told once that the Micro-VAX comes with the FPA on the CPU board.
And about the memory, it is possible that the memory board you have is a
4-Meg board, but with only 2-Meg worth of chips on it (hence only half full).
The basic Micro-VAX comes with 1 Meg of memory, I believe.

I wouldn't trust SHOW MEMORY at all. Friend of mine once told me that he was
working on a 750 which SHOW MEMORY says he got 4 Meg of memory, but physically
the 750 has 8 Meg! Some bozo never changed the sysgen parameters after they
installed the new memory.
