Greetings Netfolk, I have a question regarding VT100 compatibility. My piece of the network consists of VT200 type terminals talking to VAXes via DECserver 100s. We recently installed a DECserver 200 as a service node that talks to a bank of Sytek LocalNet modems on another network of non-DEC hosts. When I try to access one of these hosts while in VT100 emulation everything works fine. However, in VT200 mode the communications fall apart, everything is garbled. I'm reasonably certain the problem is the between the Sytek, which is talking and expecting to hear VT100 characters, and the terminal, which is looking for VT200 characters. The hosts can be ruled out because an identical service connected directly to one of the non-Dec hosts works well in both terminal emulation modes. Has anyone run into this? I was of the impression VT200 was a superset of VT100 emulation. Since this application is text only it seems to me we ought to be safe. What are the differences besides graphics capability? Regardless, I'm looking for a solution more palatable than reconfiguring the terminal as most of the applications other than this use graphics. Is it possible to have the server convert? I welcome any suggestions. Mark Tassinari

VT200s operating in VT200 mode use eight-bit characters. VT100s use only seven-bit characters. Dollars to donuts your Sytek stuff is dropping or twiddling the high-order bit. -- Larry Campbell The Boston Software Works, Inc.
