Hi- I have a PDP-11/34 (Unibus) and recently acquired an RK07 on a RK611 ctrl. Whenever I try to access the disk for read or write, the red FAULT light and the A drive access light light up, and it won't do anything else. I have some disk packs which are straight from DEC, never used, and a couple whick had been formatted on a VAX11/750 with a different RK07 drive. It does the same thing whichever packs I use. The LEDs inside the drive indicate only that speed is ok and unit is selected. It spins up and down o.k. and the ready light comes on after an appropriate amount of time. I have a feeling that it has to do with the packs' never having been formatted, or formatted with the wrong number of bits (18 vs. 22, I think?) but this is only a hunch. Do these things need to be formatted? The unibus interface seems to be working all right- all the registers give me credible values, and the error register sometimes says that there is an incorrect number of bits. All my other software runs o.k. as long as it doesn't try to access the RK07. I have no diagnostics for it because the ones I have came out before the RK07 did. Many thanks to all who respond; the net has been a great source of help on this pet project in the past.
