I am helping a friend bring up a DEC VAX 11/730 running 4.2 MORE/bsd. The system typically boots without error. However, sometimes the system starts to boot and then dies due to excessive disk errors while accessing the RA80 disk drive. We contacted the original owner of the system and he informed us that DEC had provided him with some magic lines to type at the console to fix the problem. Unfortunately, the fellow had lost the magic incantation required. The system has been off contract for a couple of years, so it doesn't seem reasonable to try and get the info from DEC. So the question is: "Does anyone know what is needed to get around this problem?". The hardware configuration consists of DEC's idc controller (Integrated Disk Controller?), an RA80 disk, and an RL02 removable disk. The system root is on the RA80. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please mail any responses directly to me. Thanks in advance. -- Paul Lutt Domain: pwl@tc.fluke.COM Voice: +1 206 356 5059 UUCP: {uw-beaver,microsof,sun}!fluke!pwl Snail: John Fluke Mfg. Co. / P.O. Box C9090 / Everett WA 98206
