[comp.sys.dec] ESDI vs SCSI for MicroVaxII

Wiley_M_Sanders@cup.portal.com (01/13/89)

I am currently contemplating the purchase of a third party ESDI or
SCSI disk subsystem to replace the dinky little RD53s on my MicroVaxII.
I have received a couple of quotes from vendors for Q-bus SCSI disk
subsystems and, to my surprise, they were about the same as ESDI. I
would like to solicit responses from anyone who has a SCSI-based disk
subsystem in use, particularly if you are already up and running VMS 5,
or anyone who strongly agrees or disagrees with the statement "there is
a future for Q-bus SCSI disk subsystems." ( 0.5 * :-) )
Email, please, and I will summarize and repost if requested.
   Thanks,
   -wiley
(PS, Also, would you think there would be significant performance dif-
ferences, assuming one big drive is attached? I am under the impression
SCSI may be a bit slower, but not much..)
