[comp.sys.dec] is dec's pc implementation that bad really?

...the company I am working for right now, Hughes Aircraft, has been
working with DEC unsuccessfully on integrating PCs within the
    DEC architecture.

seems like there is much difference between strategy and ideology
versus actual implementation. seems like dec only supports a few
pcs as part of their strategy and these tend to be only a small
portion of the available pcs. consequently, many computers have
problems with the DEPCA card installation and memory limitations.

seems like somebody at DEC had the great idea to guess a PC's type
(ie AT,XT or standard) based on the power supply metering during
boot up. unfortunately, this creates lots of problems as not all
clones utilized the same power supply power curve? bios is one thing,
    but power supplies?

i'm almost ready to give up on dec and pursue other avenues.
ie macintoshes. they seem to have much of the integration problem
resolved (i didn't even talk about integrating s/w tools within
the pc but i guess you can all imagine the headaches with that too).

has anybody else had similar responses? at times, DEC local sales rep
seems helpful but good technical knowledge is hard to find.

  thanks
