[comp.sys.dec] Convert WORD-11 to WordPerfect ?

Krulwich-Bruce@cs.yale.edu (Bruce Krulwich) (03/10/89)

I'm posting this for a friend, meth@csd2.nyu.edu:

I have a friend who works for a company whose work includes writing many
documents. They have until now been doing their word processing using a product
called WORD-11 version 4.2, on a VAX 11/730 running VMS 5.0.

They are in the process of phasing out their VAX & are doing all their work on
PC's. They wish to write future documents in WordPerfect, under PC-DOS.

Their current documents may be needed in the future. However, they wish to
convert documents from WORD-11 to WordPerfect only as necessary, as they have
quite a large store of written documents, some of which will be needed in the
future, others which are there just for archive purposes.

Their proposed plan is to download *all* their documents (perhaps a few tapes
full) onto cartridges that can be accessed by their PC's. The downloading will
be done using Kermit, which exists on their VAX & on their PC's. Then, as
necessary, run a conversion program against the needed document, which will
convert from WORD-11 format to WordPerfect format. They are looking for some
reasonably priced product on the market that will perform such a conversion.

Any pointers to available software &/or company that sells such a product would
be most appreciated.

DPD, the makers of Word-11, also sell a product called CROSSWORD which
will convert from Word-11 (V3x or V4x) to Wordstart, Wordperfect and
a couple of other formats. Also vice-versa. It runs on the VAX side,
and after the conversion one can move the files to a PC using Kermit or
whatever. We use the product occaisionally, and it performs
satisfactory. Contact DPD (Data Processing Design) at (714-970-1515)

Has the company heard of WORD-11 PC, available at Version 4.2 and compatible
with documents created on the VAX? Conversion would not be necessary with this
relatively new product (assuming the company is happy with WORD-11, and their
PC hardware is at least at the minimum required configuration).
