Hello, Does anybody have any information on ERASEABLE OPTICAL DISK DRIVES, more specifically for using with a Decstation 3100? I suppose we could hook it to our uVAX but the real application will be with the 3100. Similarly, does anyone out there have a multiple 3100 configuration up? Would love to have some advice on building a small 3100 network setup. >Does anybody have any information on ERASEABLE OPTICAL DISK >DRIVES, more specifically for using with a Decstation 3100? I strongly second this inquiry. I would like to buy a workstation with a DEC MIPS processor and the NeXt I/O handling. I don't understand why I should be satisfied with NeXt's flp power of 1/5 of DEC's, or a DEC peripheral of 332MB 24ms non-removable disk for $6000 (marketprices of faster SCSI harddisks are about $2000). If you have experience with either hooking up non-DEC harddisks or optical floppies, please let me (and other readers here) know the specifics. Does one need special drivers? Software knowledge? Hardware knowledge? Can you recommend specific (optical) drives? ivo phd_ivo@gsbacd.uchicago.edu

DEC's price for the TK50Z and the extension box for the 3100 is $5415 ! -- Jim Gish GTE Laboratories, Inc., Waltham, MA CSNET: jgish@gte.com UUCP: ..!harvard!bunny!jwg1
