At the end of my rope, I come to you, gentle USENet readers, for advise. I have a problem of staggering proportions. I have a uVAX II and a VAXStation 2000, and I want to switch them from VMS to Ultrix. I have an arangement with DEC whereby we have a right to copy the software, but my system has a TK50 tape drive, and the copy of ULtrix we have here at UC is on a 9 track tape. I haven't been able to find a TK50 version of the software that is copyable. The local Salescreature(he tries, but just don't have the ULTRIX savvy) claims that there is only one ULTRIX tape necessary for both the uVAX and the VAXstation, and that the VAXstation can be loaded across our ethernet. This is a pretty easy way out: Write a check, wait two months, get the tape, and hope He's right. I don't have two months. I'll have to wait for an ULTRIX doc set, but we have one elsewher which I can borrow in the menatime. Hence the questions: Anybody got ULTRIX 3.0 on TK50? (w/ FORTRAN ?) Is the same distribution tape used for the uVAX and the VAXstation? Is there any relatively easy way to convert from 9-track to TK50? Am I going to need a software key? How does one load ULTRIX onto a VAXstation over an ehternet? If you can load a VAXstation over the net, could I carry my uVAX up to the school ULTRIX 780, plug into their net, and load that way? Inquiring minds want to know. I would be eternally grateful to any and all people who can help me with this delemma. -- Robert Sexton, University of Cincinnati rsexton@uceng.uc.edu tut.cis.ohio-state.edu!uccba!uceng!rsexton Box Full O' Transputers...
