We have just finished installing a new disk subsystem (a Dilog MQ696 with a Wren V) in our "CompactVax II", which is a custom MicroVax II with a TSV05 tape subsystem. I instructed the installation engineer to remove entirely the old disk subsystem, which consisted of an RQDX3 and RQDXE in slots 7AB and 8AB of the upper BA23, and an RD53 in each of the upper and lower BA23, and install the MQ696 in slot 7AB. Well, as per Murphy's law, I have the manual to the RQDXE but not the RQDX3. The manual for the MicroVax says I must install the RQDX3 in the upper BA23, but I think they mean that because they assume yu are installing the RQDX3 with the RQDXE. I have the following question: Can I install the RQDX3 and one of the RD53's in the lower BA23, without the RQDXE, in addition to the MQ696 and Wren in the upper BA23? I'm not a hardware expert, but I get the impression from the documentation we do have that disk controllers can be installed just about anywhere, as long as they are last in the chain, and that addresses have been set up OK. We can't put the RQDX3 in the upper BA23 slot 8 vacated by the RQDXE because that configuration would exceed the 230W power supply limit. If this makes any sense to anyone and you have an answer, let me know.
