I know that this is an incredibly simple question, but I need to lead a remote user through the setup on an honest-to-God VT100. For the life of me, without having a manual or the keyboard in front of me I cannot figure out how to cycle through the setup menus. If some kind soul would enlighten me, I would be extremely appreciative, thereby enhancing that person's karma immensely. Please e-mail any response, I'm sure the net has no interest in the answer to this question. -- Paul Nordstrom Gill & Co., L.P. uunet!gill!paul

What menus? I happen to have a VT100 in front of me, so I'll go through the setup bits that I can divine without documentation. There are two Setup sections; A and B. To get SETUP A, press the SETUP key. The only thing of interest there appears to be the TAB settings. To get SETUP B, press the '5' key while in SETUP A. My terminal has four sets of four bits each on the left and the Transmit and Recieve speed displayed on the right. You can cycle through the speeds of each using the '7' and '8' keys respectively. The values of the other bits can be toggled with the '6' key. The translations of the bits are: Group 1 - Scroll, Auto repeat, Screen and Cursor Jump Scroll = 0 Smooth scroll = 1 Auto repeat off = 0 Auto repeat on = 1 Dark background = 0 Light background = 1 Underline cursor = 0 Block cursor = 1 Group 2 - Margin Bell, Key Click, ANSI/VT52, Auto XON/XOFF Margin Bell off = 0 Margin Bell on = 1 Key Click off = 0 Key Click on = 1 VT52 = 0 ANSI = 1 Auto XON/XOFF off = 0 Auto XON/XOFF on = 1 Group 3 - U.S/U.K. Character Set, Auto Wrap, Line feed/Newline Interlace U.S. Character Set = 0 U.K. Character Set = 1 Auto Wrap off = 0 Auto Wrap on = 1 Line feed/Newline off = 0 Line feed/Newline on = 1 Interlace off = 0 Interlace on = 1 Group 4 - Parity Sense, Parity, Bits per character, Power Odd Parity = 0 Even Parity = 1 Parity on = 1 7 bits = 0 8 bits = 1 60 HZ = 0 50 HZ = 1 Group 5 - Auxilary port bits. Reserved = 0 7 Bits per character = 0 8 bits per character = 1 Speed 00 = 300 01 = 1200 10 = 2400 11 = 9600 Group 5 isn't displayed in my SETUP mode, but it is documented on the decal on the bottom of the keyboard. > > -- > Paul Nordstrom -- Alan Rollow alan@nabeth.enet.dec.com
