[comp.sys.dec] Need rrn and nntp for VMS.

xxcomtn@kestrel.lerc.nasa.gov (Gary Stewart) (02/07/90)

Greetings! I'm trying to find rrn and nntp for our VAX/VMS users.
We currently have a Sun3 as our USENET server running C-news and
nntp. We would like to run remote 'rn' on VMS without having to
setup another server on the VAX. Has anyone done this or heard
of it being done?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know of a full rrn implementation for VMS, but VNEWS, an enhanced
version of the Unix(tm) vn is available for use with MultiNet or Wollongong
TCP/IP from the node "krypton.arc.nasa.gov". There are seperate versions for
the two versions of TCP. If you can get a DECnet based system to act as a news
server, you could get the DECnet NNTP object from ANUnews and use it and not
need any TCP/IP package on the VAX.

Disclaimer: Don't take this too seriously. I just like to improve my typing
and probably don't really know anything useful about anything.

Just wanted to let everyone know that anonymous ftp on krypton.arc.nasa.gov
may not be available after the end of February 1990. If anyone is interested
in getting a version of VNEWS after that time you can send mail to me at:

howells@earth.arc.nasa.gov

also, if anyone would care to take VNEWS on in another anon ftp host, please
feel free to do so.
