Has anyone ever successfully put two hard drives on a VAXstation II? All the connectors seem to be there, but the manuals say it is not supported. I'm talking about a straight VAXstation II, not a II/GPX in the bigger cabinet. It looks like all that would be required is remove the TK50 or RX50s and find the right cables. How would you connet a write protect and ready switch? Or would they not be needed? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

We wanted to connect a second drive AND KEEP THE TK50, so we had to buy the drive in the "Leprechaun box" which contains a power supply and front panel with the ready and write protect buttons. > It looks like all that would be required is remove the TK50 or RX50s and > find the right cables. The power supply should be able to handle it unless you have a lot of power hungry boards in the box. _____________________________________ Brian V. I have 2 RD53's in my Microvax II at home. The second one must be set as drive 4. (The RX50's are 1 and 2 and the first RD is 3. If your drive has selects 0-3, then set it to 3) As you have guessed, it plugs into the other set of fixed disk connectors. No front panel is necessary for the second drive. If you want one, you would need to add a 2nd distribution panel and use an RQDXE. I put my TK50 in an external hard disk case for expanding a PC, and just extended its cable and used a 25-pin D connector (skipping line 1 in the ribbon cable) to allow disconenction. /mike \|/ Michael L.
