[comp.sys.dec] MODEM SUCCESS

connie@psych.Stanford.EDU (Constance Stillinger) (03/25/90)

Getting it to work was relatively easy. It turns out that
it was merely a matter of finding the right section of the manual.
(okay, okay ... so I'm new at this.)

The necessary info is in the "uucp Utility" section of the manual.
Just follow the directions there for manually setting it up. (My
mistake was trying to let it do it automatically.)
The cables I used I ordered from DEC: a BC16E-10 cable and -- now
pay attention -- an H8571-C adaptor. No other hardware was necessary.
My modem is an E-tronics 2400, fully compatible with hayes.

If anyone else is interested, I will post in more detail what I put
in the relevant files (/etc/ttys, /var/uucp/L-devices, /etc/acucap,
/etc/remote).

Thank you, everyone who responded to my pre-rtfm pleas!

Connie
