tar hackers: I have discovered a limitation using the tar command on the DECStations 2100 running version 3.1 of Ultrix. tar issues the following error when I tar a sub-directory when my current working directory is ~100 characters long: tar: File name too long: <very/long/directory/...> <very/long/directory/...> is my current working directory The tar command I am issueing is tar cvf tar.out tar.in tar.in is a directory w/ only two levels of sub-directories (ie. much less than the 100 character limitation) I have tested this on the Sun Sparcstation running 4.1 of Sun-OS with no problems. Is there a way around this limitation? Thanks in advance! -- +--John Sims, SAS Institute Inc. Yes. There is a patch at the CSC in Atlanta. It should also be fixed in 4.0, so if you aren't running into this problem today, please wait for 4.0. ..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..
