I am trying to put a third-party disk (An Andataco 509A, 657MB) on a new DECStation 3100 as its boot disk. In a former life, this disk lived peacefully on a VAXStation 3100 running VMS. I can hack the installation tape to put the system on this unknown disk, but when I boot the DS3100, it panics immediately after loading vmunix. Unfortunately, it clears the screen about 3 microseconds after the panic so I cannot read the exact error message. I suspect that the disk needs reformatting and the fine manual refers you to the Maintanence manual (which I do not have) for info on the scsi and t commands. Would some kind soul please forward the commands I need to format this disk? Better, if anybody has done the full installation and would like to tell me how they did it, I'd love to hear from you. Thank in advance. -- Doug O'Neal, Distributed Systems Programmer, Johns Hopkins University doug@jhuvms.bitnet, doug@jhuvms.hcf.jhu.edu, mimsy!aplcen!jhunix!doug Like many of the features of UNIX, UUCP appears theoretically unworkable... - DEC Professional, April 1990
