[comp.sys.dec] rz55 speedups

castor@embezzle.stanford.edu (Castor Fu) (08/18/90)

A week or so ago I saw some stuff about revisions for the ROMs on
DEC's RZ55 drives which would speed up access times.

How much of a performance improvement would one see, and how would one
know if one had the old rev's or the new ones? Are these changes which
would be reasonable to demand for drives which are under maintenance from DEC?

If there is interest I will summarize responses and post them.

Type ``rzdisk -i /dev/rrzXc'' (where X is the drive ID).
It will print something like the following:

Dump of Inquiry Data:
  Peripheral Device Type 0x0
  Device Type Qualifier 0x0
  Removable Medium 0x0
  Version 0x1
  Vendor Identificaton DEC
  Product Identification RZ57 (C) DEC
  Revision Level 100A

For the RZ55, if the revision level is 700 or less, your drive doesn't
have the speedup.
