I am considering the purchase of two VAXStation 3100's and would like to add an external SCSI cabinet with a Fujitsu model M2263E (778 MB) drive. The drive is supplied unformated by the vendor. How does one go about (low level) formatting this drive for use with VMS? We have several Q-Bus machines (MV II, VAXstation 3200, etc) that have ESDI controllers and I am familiar with using the on-board formatters (wombat, etc) from ODT. Does something similiar exist for the 3100 series computers with DEC's SCSI controller? The local DEC Sales office couldn't (wouldn't?!) supply the information and the vendor will "get back to me". Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Bob Petri aia@j.cc.purdue.edu petri@PURCCVM.BITNET

My VS3100 manual that came with the machine describes formatting SCSI drives at the ROM prompt using 'TEST 75', and I have done this on at least 2 occasions. Chris
