[comp.sys.dec] DXsession on remote X-terminal

rlm@ceres.physics.uiowa.edu (08/31/90)

We have a DEC-3100 demo unit which I would like to test with a PC running
X-windows (Hummingbird's HCL Exceed plus). I can log into the 3100 using
Telnet, but cannot get the DECstation to fire up the session manager
(dxsession). I CAN get a dxterm by first settting the DISPLAY environment
variable to my PC's internet address, and also get dxwm to fire up, but
the session manager refuses to come up. I have been a long-time VMS user,
so I am not really familiar with UNIX-ese. Could someone kindly point out
how to set the .login file or whatever to get dxsession to talk to a remote
x-terminal? (N.B. DEC also did not leave much in the way of manuals so
RTFM is not an option).

Thanks in advance,
