Hi; I have just completed the addition of a thick-ether option card to a DECstation 5000 (Ultrix 4.0) and am searching for the required mods to the config file. I have added the addition of "device ln1 at ibus? vector lnintr" to the config file and encounter the following problems: 1) su - is killed on unaligned access 2) login as root - gives a bizarre message in the upper-left corner of the screen (/dev/ttyp) and the login never completes. By logging in across the net I have been able to su and kill the x-server (oh yes, this 5000 features a 2D accelator) after which things work relatively sanely providing you are not root. NOTE: I have added a dummy ifconfig for ln0 (the thin-ether interface) and have ifconfig'd it to down (this is described in the Ultrix 4.0 release notes, section 2.12.5) to no avail. The new ethernet device successfully finds the net, but something is getting confused. Also, the thin port is terminated (with the tee). Is there something else that needs to be done to the config file ?? Please advise. Philip Attfield Bell-Northern Research Ltd. PO Box 3511, Station C Ottawa, Ont K1Y 4H7 613 763 5391
