We have a monochrome VAXstation monitor (VR260?) that has gone belly up, and
without a maintenance contract. We are looking for some free diagnostic help
from any monitor jocks out there...
The symptoms of the problem were:
1. One day we turned it on, and the screen image went all the way to the edge
of the tube, instead of the normal one inch or so in from the edge.
2. After a couple of days of running like this (I know, I know...not the
brightest move), the screen finally went black.
3. We took off the back, and the board to the left of the tube (not the one
right behind the tube) was cooked. We've replaced that.
4. Now we're back to the beginning - the screen image is too big.
Obviously, we have a separate problem, the one that caused the board to be
cooked. The question now is this: what to replace next? The other board? Or
should we be suspicious of the flyback transformer or something like that?
If you have any knowledge of a similar problem (and/or the solution), please
drop me a note.
Thanks.
Phil
