[comp.sys.dec] autobauding getty for Ultrix 4.0 ?

ltf@ncmicro.lonestar.org (Lance Franklin) (09/27/90)

We had a bit of a problem here at ncmicro with outgoing posts a few days
back, so I'm reposting this request.

Does anybody have a getty frontend or replacement that intelligently
deals with a Hayes-compatable (Telebit T1000, to be exact) modem which
returns a "CONNECT <baudrate>" when a connection is made? The present
getty does autobauding using breaks, but we're planning on adding a
customer support BBS on our machine and I'd rather not have to explain
to our customers "Oh, just keep hitting break until you get something
readable on the screen" If it also had enough smarts to handle 7 and
8 bits with varying parity modes, that would be even better.

Oh, and it has to be compatable with UUCP, since they'll be sharing a
single modem (due to the sparcity of comm ports on the DS3100, ugh).

And a little side request...anybody know how to set up a T1000 to allow
it to talk to a 2400 baud MNP4 modem? Haven't been able to get the
thing to talk in that mode yet, although it answers in 2400 Non-MNP
with no problems...thing keeps dropping the line when I call in MNP
mode, even though I thought I had the modem setup properly for Auto-
Reliable mode. Ah well, at least my home phone line has quieted down
a bit lately, making it a bit less urgent.

Thanks....Lance
