[comp.sys.dec] Wanted: UNIX Workstation!

admiral@admiral.UUCP (Doug Fields) (09/30/90)

I'm looking around for a good deal on a (probably used) workstation to buy
in the next few months. I was wondering if anyone on the net was
considering selling one or had any suggestions about where to look.

I'm looking for a machine that will run X windows, has a bus of some
kind so that I can add serial ports, has SCSI interface, and will run
either OSF/1 or System V.4; although it really doesn't matter.
It should be able to handle 3rd party SCSI disks with a minimum
of hassle. I'll want at least 200Mb of disk space, but I can put that
together separately. 3rd party memory availability would also be a plus.

I'm looking in the ~$3k to ~$6k price range, depending on configuration.
What I really have in mind is a Sun Sparcstation (with the S-bus)
but I'm open to other suggestions, particularly a MIPS-based box or
an '030 or '040-based box with comparable power.

Color is much prefered. Grayscale is a must; I'd rather not have b&w!

Looking for an old Cube that somebody doesn't want and wouldn't mind
parting with for a few of my pennies. Will also consider a NeXT
printer along with it too. If you have such a beast, and don't want
it anymore, contact me with the stats of your machine, and about how
much you are looking for it.

Thanks for any and all suggestions!

>PS: kinda copied from Steve Barber :) And another person :)

But I am serious... Need this for school!
