[comp.sys.dec] RQDX3 help; additional required

timt@lakesys.lakesys.com (Tim Thompson) (10/04/90)

Thanks to your help, I was able to get my second RD53 to respond.
After applying an "ECO" to the front panel console, I was able to
format the 2nd drive.

That was one probelm; here is another -

Booting RSTS/E V8G, from DL3, and DSKINT'ing both drives, I encounter
no problems. COPYing a minimal system works, too. REFRESH works.

Booting the freshley created SYSTEM volume works.
Installing SYSGEN works.
Starting SYSGEN/RT11 bombs!

As soon as it says '3 devices disabled' (for DL0, 1, and 2 - offline,)
it hangs, and the LED on the RQDX3 starts flashing.

RU (DU) vector shows as 300. CSR = 172150.

Configuration is basically -

---------------- KDF11-BA ----------------
2MB parity       --------       2MB parity
LPV11            --------            RQDX3
---------------- RLV12-AP ----------------

Installed in an H9275 backplane, with an H7861 power supply.
BA23 distribution panel, with Drive Ready 1, and Write-protect 1 forced high.
2 RD53 drives, genuine DEC
1 RX50
1 RL02
3 RL01's

Note -

Attempted to access drive by booting pack in DL3;
attempts at mounting the drive returned "Device hung or write-locked"
(This error occured for DU0, DU1, DU2, and DU3.)

Questions -

The RQDX3 has several more jumpers than the RQDX1 or RQDX2;
Which of these, if any, are "LUN" jumpers?
Which of these, if any, will force a vector, rather than let it float?
Just what the heck are the rest of these jumpers for?

(Hey, at least I figured out how to set the CSR.
 That may not sound so amazing, but at the mental
 level I've been operating on the last few days,
 I think someone owes me a cookie.)
