[comp.sys.dec] How to get a stuck tape out of a TK50 drive?

doug@ridley.coyote.trw.com (Doug Rudoff) (10/11/90)

I have a SCSI TK50 drive that has a tape that cannot be ejected. I've
tried every combination of pressing the button and shutting it off an
on, and the tape refuses to budge. I'm afraid I might have to open up
the box.

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions?

You'll have to pull the drive. Call your field servoid if you have a
contract -- they hate it when you open the box. If you don't have a
contract, yank it apart and work the mechanism by hand until you find
the lever that releases the tape lock. It's not hard, most TK50 owners
around here do this about once a month, if they got an early drive.

Cheers,
