[comp.sys.dec] Escape key on LK201 keyboard

chiraprakash@MV3600.BMEN.TULANE.EDU (Chiraprakash Nayak) (10/19/90)

While logged on to unix machines from a vaxstation-2000 with LK201 keyboard
(vt-100 term), how do I get an escape key? Is there a special termcap for
this? How is it done for dec machines running ULTRIX (I assume these also use
the LK201 keyboard)?

I appreciate your help very much.

The Escape key is F11 on the LK201 keyboard under Ultrix. An
alternate way of generating an Escape is usually ^[ (Control-[). I've
found that ^[ works on nearly every keyboard that I've used.

Try using 'CTRL-[' that's control left square bracket! I use it on an LK201
while logged into a Unix network from a VAX running VMS.

If you VS2000 is a workstation running X, you can also play games
with your keysym mapping (look at xmodmap in the MIT X11 distribution),
and with toolkit mappings.

I always use cntrl-3 on the LK201 keyboard for escape.

The Escape key on an LK201 is F11.

I wish to thank every one who replied to my query regarding escape key on
LK201 keyboard.

1. With VWS on VMS, cntl-[ is the only solution that worked for me.
2. While within emacs(on an unix machine) f11 or f4 simply hangs the program.
I had no choice but disconnect telnet and start over again. (I was logged
on an unix machine from vaxstation-2000 (VMS) thru telnet).
3. With only 6MB memory, DECwindows runs so slow that, untill I can get
more memory or DEC does something to speed things up, I have to use VWS.
Thus I could not try remapping the keyboard under X as another suggested
   solution.

Thank you all agian.

Try control-3. I like this because it can be typed single handed. A
more generic alternative is control-[, the problem here is that on
many keyboards this is a two handed construction.
