I suspect that you are being confused by the VAXstation annoucement made this week, which is a faster VAXstation than other VAXstations, though it is much slower than a DS5000. - Jim

I suspect it's the 5500, a 28-mips monoprocessor which is probably released to replace the 58n0 series (which was to have had a successor, the 5900, but that was cancelled).

DEC is preparing to anounce a new Risc/Ultrix workstation! No doubt they are waiting for Sun's anouncement of the Sparcstation II. The next couple of weeks could make up for a boring summer.
