[comp.sys.dec] New DEC workstations?

cyberoid@milton.u.washington.edu (Robert Jacobson) (10/26/90)

What's the scoop? Wall Street Journal today mentioned workstations
about to be released even more powerful than 5000's. News?

I suspect that you are being confused by the VAXstation annoucement made this week,
which is a faster VAXstation than other VAXstations, though it is much slower than
a DS5000.

I suspect it's the 5500, a 28-mips monoprocessor which is probably released
to replace the 58n0 series (which was to have had a successor, the 5900, but
that was cancelled).

DEC is preparing to anounce a new Risc/Ultrix workstation!
No doubt they are waiting for Sun's anouncement of the Sparcstation II.
The next couple of weeks could make up for a boring summer.

Playing leapfrog is such a fun game!
