Greetings!
I have been tasked with presenting server configurations for my group
of about 45 technical people. The requirements are shaping up to be something
"faster than our 780," with around 2G of disk space, and lots of tape options
like 3480, 8mm, 9-track, etc. We have a large base of software written on the
Vax, but it would be nice to be able to do X-based graphics as well.
My question is this: what sort of platform does DEC build that would let
us continue running VMS (Ultrix is ok, but not preferred) and still meet the
requirements for lots of peripherals? It would also be nice if the machine
didn't require a special room (A/C & power); sort of like a Sun 470. Oh ya,
I suppose approximate prices would be nice, too! Thanks in advance for any
info. I will post a summary of responses if others are curious about sizing
a "workgroup" DEC machine.
