Yesterday I tried to build gcc so that I could build g++ on a DS-5000 running ultrix 4.0 I got the distribution from gatekeeper.dec.com, decompressed, tar'd the whole thing and then did the make on gcc. This initial compiler build succeeded after I twiddled a few include files to deal with the fact that DEC has added some ANSI/POSIX data type definitions to system include files and gcc tried to re-define them. I copied the initial compiler into the stage 1 directory as requested, and then tried to use the compiler to compile itself as instructed in the installation notes. Then the make failed indicating: 1. the -g switch was not legal. 2. a preprocessor line which used the defined(xxx) was illegal. Has anyone successfuly built gcc and/or g++ on DS-5000 ultrix 4.0 and can get me around this?
