OK, here is what I want to accomplish, I Want to provide LAT access to our IBM AS/400's. Environment: Multinode Ethernet ( Digital VAX's running VMS, IBM PC's running PCSA) Multiple AS/400's ( On Token Ring ) Problem : I need to provide LAT access to our AS/400's (i.e. From "Local>" prompt on terminal Servers offer AS/400's as a service) Conditions: 1. Must provide color emulation (ie 3279,3297) to VT340 2. Must not involve placing any additional protocols on E-NET 3. Must be user transparent (ie. no multiple logins ...) 4. Must provide for system Status on 25th Line or Right Side. 5. Must close IBM session if LAT session terminates. 6. Must allow for Multiple AS/400 Session under same LAT service. 7. Must be easily expandable to ~200 connections. Caveats: 1. No I can't get rid of the IBM's or the DEC's Current Solution: Digital DECservers reversed LATed to Andrews boxes. Twinaxe to IBM. Problem: Not Easily expandable to desired quantity. Proposed Solution: Use a Gandalf Box to do LAT -> TCP/IP on short E-Net then Mitek box to Token Ring or SNA. Possible Problem: My boss is of the opinion that TCP/IP is dead, and doesn't want to get into a dead end solution. (Yea I known, but HE'S the BOSS. Big time references to counter opinion appreciated.) Any and all responses ( both positive and negative ) GREATLY appreciated.
