I'm having problems getting a MicroVAX 3800 to talk IP over a network. I've got an identical machine at another site working with no problem. It is configured the same, same Ethernet board, etc... All machines are running Ultrix 3.1. Heres the scenario: machine A is a uVAX II with a DEQNA ethernet board. machine B is a uVAX 3800 with a DESQA (rev. D03) ethernet board. They are connected at the same DELNI and there are no filters anywhere on the network. There is a network analyzer also connected at the same DELNI multi-port. Machine A is able to telnet, ftp, ping anywhere on the network. The network extends a couple of hundred miles. Machine B is only able to see local traffic(within the building). The strange thing is if I try to ping from machine B to another machine outside the building, with the help of the sniffer, I can see an arp request go out and a response come back from the other machine. B never sees the response and eventually times out. Machine A can leave the building with no problem. If I put the DEQNA in machine B, it works perfect. I can't put the DESQA in machine A to test it because it has the rivoted face plate on the front which prevents it from fitting in the uVAX II. Has anyone else had any problem with a board (the DESQA in particular) allowing local traffic but closing its eyes to incoming ouside traffic? Any help will be greatly appreciated. This has a lot of people stumped. Thanks, -- Rex Fowler <rmfowler%texrex@cirr.com> UUCP: egsner!texrex!rmfowler
