I have a friend who publishes a hobbyist magazine, and we were discussing new ventures, and I mentioned that there might be a market for a DEC related mag. A bit of base info, first. The current mag is called The Computer Journal, and supports the CP/M - ZCPR community (and you thought we all died 10 years ago:-). The mag is written by the readers for the readers, and includes pratical experience content. There is not much advertising in it, but there those are again related to the topic at hand. My proprosal is this: would anyone see the advantages for a similar DEC mag? Rough ideas follow. The mag (or journal) would be broken up into various departments. One such would be for VAX/VMS, another for RSX-11, RT-11, RSTS, etc. People who are interested in DEC equipment as a hobby would right useful articals that users could apply to their hobby. Current mags, including DEC Professional, and Digital News dont quite fit the bill. Digital News is mostly concerned with new products, and related to the business world. The DEC Pro mag started out as above, but also swung into different avenues of interest. I personally dont subscribe to VAX Pro, but would imagine it the same. The new mag would be aimed at people who collect VAX and PDP-[11|8], and micros, such as the Pro-300 series and the DECmates [II|III]. Would any of you DEC hobbyists subscribe to such a rag, and would any of you DEC used equipment resellers support the rag? If you think this sounds like a good idea, please leave me mail, and I will keep in contact with my friend. If you dont think its a good idea, send me mail also, and tell me why. Personally, I think that such a mag would be a good idea. I see others posting to alt.folklore.computers who talk about the stuff they own (re: TU56 restoration, etc!) !! The Computer Journal is also the name of the official journal of
the British Computer (or Computing?) Society. It has been around for
a very long time, and has significant circulation in Europe and North
America.
