We have the following DECNET configuration which causes trouble: +--------------+ +---------------+ +-------------+ | VAX IV router| | VAX IV endnode| | cisco box |--> other areas | 47.2 | | 47.4 | | 47.41 | +------+-------+ +-------+-------+ +------+------+ | | | ----------*----------*------------*--------------------*- thick wire ethernet | * = H4005 +----------+-----------+ | DESPR (hart beat off)| +----------------------+ \---------------\/------------------- thin wire ethernet | +-------------------+ | Shiva Fast Path 4 | | 47.53 | +-------------------+ | --------\/-----------------------------------/\---------- Appletalk cable | +----------------+ | Mac II LanWorks| | 47.54 | +----------------+ 47.2 (a VAX) and 47.41 (a cisco box) both act as level 2 router and as DECNET area router. The fast path 47.53 supposedly acts as level 1 router. On a phase IV DECNET end node (such as 47.4), the cisco box (47.41) and the fast path (47.53) cause a wild storm of decnet events such as adjacency down and up, and adjacency rejected. The end node 47.4 permanently switches between 47.41 and 47.53 as next node to all other nodes. On the other hand, 47.2 (roting IV) does not show any problems, i.e. 47.54 is seen through 47.53, and other areas are seen correctly. 47.54 can connect to any node including 47.2 and 47.4 without problems. Hints , pointers, etc. highly appreciated.
