[comp.sys.dec] Help needed on unix software for DEC Printserver20

dan@sci.ccny.cuny.edu (Dan Schlitt) (02/09/91)

By this time in my life I should know better, but I went ahead and did
it anyhow. I took the word of a DEC sales critter that they would
provide the required software to drive a Printserver20 from a BSD unix
system. DEC seems to be unable to deliver the software.

I am sure that there is someone out there that is doing this sort of
printing. Could you tell me what I need and where I can get the
required sources. We have 4.3BSD source so diffs will do the job.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

DEC does have the software running on ULtrix & 4.3BSD systems that control the
LPS20. I am sure the following person in the LPS20 group will be able to
help you:

My DEC sales droids have been expousing the virtues of running the DEC
printserver20 from our VAXs ( VMS ) over running them from our normal Unix
( TCP/IP -lpd ) interface.

Could anyone out there give me their impressions/experiences
concerning this printer?

We would prefer to run from the normal lpd interface.

Also, an aside, does dec support tcp/ip lpd type printing from their
VAX VMS machines? We can do it with 3'rd party software, but was
wondering if dec supported it ( or anyone had tried this ).
