[comp.sys.dec] PostScript engine in the DecStation

da@cs.brown.edu (David Ascher) (04/10/91)

Hi netters.

Is there any way to use the Display PostScript engine in the
Decstation to do off-screen imaging, or is that hardcoded in as part
of the license agreement from Adobe? I.e., would it be possible to
print a PostScript file on a non-Postscript printer by using the
interpreter that comes on the Decstation?

Note: I don't mean ghostscript... it isn't "good" enough, although I
think it's a great idea. There are some files that make it through
real Adobe PostScript and that don't make it thru GhostScript.

You should be able to use Display PostScript on pixmaps (off-screen
images) or windows and then use XGetImage to copy these to client image
format. You can do anything you want with the image data, including
converting to formats appropriate for your printers.
