I want to get a Fuijitsu full height, 5-1/4", 670MB disk drive to put into a DEC5000 dual-drive expansion box. From looking at the DEC drive now in the expansion box, it looks like a bracket of some sort may be needed to secure the drive in the expansion box. Can anyone clarify whether a bracket is needed? If so, is the bracket typically available from disk vendors? Thanks. Richard Hintz opsrjh@uccvma.ucop.edu University of California

It is usually prudent to secure the drive into the expansion box. The only time I ever ignore this is for temporary installs in the lab when we're just testing drives. >> If so, is the bracket typically available from disk vendors? << I don't really know. The DEC part number is 74-39202-01 REV A01 and that isn't a typical DEC sales part number. However, you might be able to procure them through your local DEC Field Service folks. I can't guarantee whether or not the Fujitsu drives have mounting holes that match the locations of the mounting holes on the drives we get from Micropolis. Although, I would suspect they probably do (I just haven't seen them). I don't think the bracket would be very hard for any metal vendor to duplicate, but if it particularly stumps Fujitsu I wouldn't be averse to sending them a copy of the mechanical drawing. Just have them drop us a note or give us a call. I hope that the information helps.
