[comp.sys.dec] Request: Info on VMS-Unix-Novell Mail Protocols/Software

keith@sequoia.UUCP (Keith Pyle) (05/07/91)

Here's the background:

The company for which I have worked was recently purchased by our major
competitor. I'm in charge of a mostly Unix shop which will now need to
exchange mail with the new home office where they run mostly VMS and
Novell. We run sendmail using elm as our user interface. They will
probably be using All-in-1 for VMS users and are presently using
Network Courier for their Novell users.

We will have a 56KB line between the sites to use for mail and a few
other purposes. We know Unix quite well and they know their systems,
but neither group really knows that much about the other's systems.

So, I have a few questions:

What are the recommended means of accomplishing this?

What are the means to avoid at some or all costs?

Are there any good sources of background information on these issues?

What software for VMS or Novell exists that is desirable and from whom
is it available?

What are the costs of the packages recommended?

Any solid information regarding these questions (or ones I should be
asking :-) would be appreciated. I will collect and summarize the
responses.
