Thanks to those people who responded to my request for Internet address help for our diskless DECstation 3100's. I neglected to mention that we are still under ULTRIX 3.1 (we go to 4.1 this weekend) but the help was good just the same. One comment. Many people told us we needed to change the node addresses (in hexidecimal) in the file netblock.c. Well, that is how you would pronounce the name, but the actual file is netblk.c and we spent half a day trying to figure out why we didn't have netblock.c (thought it was a problem at 3.1, but no...). We now have the workstations booting in single user mode, but still cannot get them into multiuser mode. Hopefully we can fix them before upgrading, or maybe the upgrade will fix the problem. By the way, all the help (with one exception) came from users, not from DEC. That includes my calls to two technical persons at local or semilocal DEC offices (no names or locations). These guys have no experience or knowledge when it comes to a diskless environment, and one guy just couldn't be bothered to return calls or offer help. I must say, though, that one person from DEC in JAPAN (!) responded with the correct help (although he too called the file netblock.c). Thanks to that person (you know who you are) as well as all the others (again). Doug Smith The University of Toledo
