[comp.sys.dec] Followup/Status on TK70 and DECsystem 5500

krf@wucs1.wustl.edu (Kevin R. Fenster) (05/16/91)

A while back I posted an article asking anyone if they had noticed
a severe performance problem with telnet and lat connections whenever
they started using a TK70 for tar on a DECsystem 5500.

Well, DEC has been working on it. We should know in a couple days
whether this is the final solution. Seems that DEC folks are able to
reproduce the problem with Revision Level C cpu boards, which apparently
is what we have. The problem apparently does not occur on cpu boards of
revision level E. My understanding is that I have a set of Level E boards
on their way.

Not a lot of technical content, just something for you to file away.

What is different between level C and level E? I don't know. Maybe in
a different day, a different time, a different bar, I might of asked.
I'm just thankful for the attention that Digital has given the problem,
and I hope it's solved. (For those DEC folks listening, this is
being handled very professionally by the Omaha Field Service group,
headed by Dave Wausung. Good people)
