A while back I posted an article asking anyone if they had noticed a severe performance problem with telnet and lat connections whenever they started using a TK70 for tar on a DECsystem 5500. Well, DEC has been working on it. We should know in a couple days whether this is the final solution. Seems that DEC folks are able to reproduce the problem with Revision Level C cpu boards, which apparently is what we have. The problem apparently does not occur on cpu boards of revision level E. My understanding is that I have a set of Level E boards on their way. Not a lot of technical content, just something for you to file away. What is different between level C and level E? I don't know. Maybe in a different day, a different time, a different bar, I might of asked. I'm just thankful for the attention that Digital has given the problem, and I hope it's solved. (For those DEC folks listening, this is being handled very professionally by the Omaha Field Service group, headed by Dave Wausung. Good people) Later, Kevin Fenster Director of Computer Services Nebraska Wesleyan University
